Wayne Rooney's title-winning penalty spot from Ewood Park on eBay

Rovers fan Eddie Maxwell thought up the money-making opportunity shortly after the game and asked the club if he could dig up the small patch of turf.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Maxwell explained: 'At first I was just thinking of taking the centre spot because any Rovers fan would be interested in that but then after the Manchester United match I wanted the penalty spot as well.

'It is a piece of football history – maybe Rooney would be interested in buying it.'

At the time of writing, with eight days still to go on the auction, more than 20 bids have already been placed and the total is into triple figures.
