David Luiz says Chelsea can win the Champions League without him, and he will share his team-mates’ joy even though he cannot play alongside them.
He said: "I can’t play, but I am with the team. Now in this phase of the Champions League it is difficult to choose who you want to play. Every team is difficult."
He denied frustrations at having to sit out the tie, saying: "The happiness of my team-mates will be my own happiness."
A sort of David Luiz-mania has hit Stamford Bridge in recent weeks, with some fans donning curly wigs and singing songs in praise of Chelsea’s new Brazilian star.
Asked about the scenes, modest Luiz said: "I am really happy that the team are in a good way. But I think the fans like Chelsea, not me.
"It is much easier [to settle in] when the players and the manager help me. I think that is why I have settled in. It didn’t feel all that different [moving to Chelsea]."
